It was called a 'summer holiday', but in some ways it didn't much resemble one. England has suffered from a lot of flooding this year and our 3 weeks were mostly very rainy. Nevertheless, we had a great time, going to London to see "The Sound of Music" (brilliant) and "The Lion King" (a bit disappointing) then moving on to stay in Derbyshire for two weeks at the cottage we've rented before. During that time we also went up to see Peter's family on the occasion of John's 60th birthday. Below are a few photos:
Adie and Ricky doing the 'Harry Potter' bit at King's Cross station.
The farm we stayed on had two new kittens as well as a puppy - this is Abbie....
...and this is Ziggy.
Grandma with her sons and some of her grandchildren, on the occasion of John's 60th.
This time with the WAGs.
Just to prove that it didn't rain the entire time....here are Adie and Ricky above the water cascade at Chatsworth House.
Whilst on the farm we got to see some of the work being done - here is Pauline injecting and protecting the sheep.
One activity which didn't depend on good weather was when we visited the local caves where the 'Blue John' stone is mined.
We tried to get a less-windswept picture, but it wasn't possible. These are the fields behind the cottage. We'd planned some longer walks this time, but those didn't happen.
Ricky and Peter did manage to get some cricket practice in, which made up a little for the match which they had tickets for being called off!
The good news is that at least we hadn't missed any drier weather due to being in England - apparently Germany has been just as bad! And since we are never looking for baking sunshine that's okay. In some ways this has been one of the most relaxing holidays we've had for ages!
